Will the Apple iPad be an iFlop?

After months of speculation about the introduction of Apple’s “tablet,” the iPad was finally introduced last week with MUCH fanfare! While there has been much discussion among tech writers and analysts about what it “doesn’t” include, I think that they may have forgotten the history of the iPhone. Shortly after the iPhone launch less than 2 years ago, there was much grumbling about the limitations of the iPhone…most importantly, it’s inability to run third-party apps.

I read the other day a great quote from a photographer. The question was “What’s the best camera?” His answer? “The one you have with you.”

I work with a number of real estate agents. While they may have a large megapixel camera to shoot their listings, increasingly the value of an agent is reflected in how quickly they can get their photos to potential buyers AND how high the quality of the photos is.

Without special lighting (and most agents don’t have that), the photos often end up being either very underexposed or overexposed. However, with this under-$2 iPhone app, just about anyone can get quality photos and quickly e-mail them right to a prospective buyer. See the sample photos below and the link to the iPhone app called PRO HDR. One note: This will only work with the iPhone 3GS and the better camera that it has. Check it out!

While Apple hasn’t even formally announced an iTablet, several publishers are already demonstrating what their next electronic periodicals will look like…just in case the iTablet makes an appearance. Check out the video of what a Sports Illustrated issue might look like.

I recently bought a MacBook Air to do presentations as VP-Affiliate Mktg Strategies for HomeStore Rewards. (See another presentation in FEATURED VIDEO at the bottom of the page featuring Apple’s marketing & design expertise.)

These presentations use Apple’s Keynote presentation software (makes PowerPoint presentations look lame by comparison). In any event, within a week or so of getting the Air, I noticed that it wasn’t charging correctly. So, I called and the Apple rep advised me to take it to my local authorized Apple service center. So I did. Here’s where it gets interesting.

In 2006, we purchased an OxyMagic Carpet Cleaning franchise for Wichita, KS and surrounding areas. You’ll see below the new smart car that we purchased to outfit with OxyMagic graphics similar to what you see. Well, just recently, Terri Bennett, a nationally-known healthy-living expert, did a feature video in concert with OxyMagic of the Carolinas. It is an awesome profile of the benefits of using OxyMagic Carpet Cleaning (other than the obvious understanding that OXY cleaners just work better and are more eco-friendly). One of Obscura’s best known projects, iGoogle Artist Themes involved turning an entire city block of the Meatpacking District in New York into a series of projected, interactive billboards, where the work of artists like Jeff Koons and Marc Ecko were blown up to five stories tall for the three night event. Or you may have spotted Adobe CS3, an interactive window display advertising Adobe’s new Creative Suite release that became visually hyperactive based on how many people walked by on the street, and even how close they came to the screen. The collaboration with Goodby Silverstein & Partners and Brand New School transformed windows of the Virgin Megastores in Union Square, New York, and Picadilly Circus in London.

While the music in this video gets a big repetitive, the fact that it was supposedly shot entirely on the new iPhone 3GS is quite amazing. Normally only high-end cameras can get the “depth of field” that brings the foreground into focus while the background is slightly out of focus. However, the new iPhone 3GS has the ability to quickly select what area you want to be in focus…both for still photos and video…even with close-up video like this.

Additionally, the phone can automatically upload the video to YouTube or MobileMe.
