STEP 5-DEVELOP A BRAINTRUST
As you can probably tell from the “tone” of our site, we believe in the BRAINeLINK™ concept.
In the animated header above, we suggest that
“Nobody Knows It All – BRAINeLINK™“.
If you’re even casually involved with education, commerce, business, parenting or just life – you know that there’s just no way to know it all without some help. Fortunately, the electronic age permits us to link with each other and to link our brains with others – electronically.
This entire process then helps us form BrainTrust alliances. Many hopefully will be started or solidified here.
But, there are many other ways to form BrainTrusts – either online or offline. In your own community, seek out other non-conventional thinkers … other successful businesspeople … mentors … even students who may know more about technological-related issues than you. And don’t forget seniors or retired inventors (they rarely retire), businesspeople, designers, photographers, writers, moms and housewives (often some of the best networkers and problem-solvers you’ll find) or others who’ve “been there-done that.”
One of the greatest wastes that we observe is the tendency to focus on the 20-somethings (young person, don’t leave me now before you read the rest) TO THE EXCLUSION OF their older and more experienced counterparts. It is the LINKING of the energetic “can do anything” spirit of the young AND the seasoned reason of the not-so- young that can often ignite the most powerful and successful business successes.
Consider that presently the most rapid adoptees of internet access are retirees. Are they all interested in what you are? Of course not. But, there is a wealth of knowledge … innovation … relationship-building skills … writing and design acumen … and burning desire to be recognized as useful, helpful, valuable and important residing within the senior population of our country and others. Don’t overlook their potential value to you in your quest to BRAINeLINK™ with others.
At the same time, patiently share your insights (be they technology- related or otherwise) with them. Just because they may not be “tech savvy” doesn’t mean that they have nothing to offer AND are not worthy of your respect.
MOVING ON …
While some salespeople have lead-generating groups that they belong to (often with great success), our “Develop a BrainTrust” idea goes beyond that. It is not a lead-generating concept as much as a way to interact with non-competitors to have “free for all” sessions that brainstorm ways that you could conduct your business more innovatively.
It’s the kind of thing that are retained by clients to provide in a corporate environment. Although we often prepare complete Market Positioning Strategy Plans for clients, we can also act as “pump primers” with them, their creative or marketing staffs or key employees.
This pump-priming process is designed to get the creative process going, knowing that many creative … brilliant … unique ideas often reside within the minds and thoughts of those within the company. We’re suggesting that you do this with your own business, be it sales, manufacturing, services or professional.
